Wednesday's Mineral Wells Rotary Club meeting went swimmingly, thanks to Mineral Wells Moccasins swim team coach Macy Nix and two special guests.

Nix, along with her sister, Lexis, this year took over coaching and leading the team and its 48 members from ages under 8 to over 40. The team competes in Region IV of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation.

Nix brought to Wednesday's meeting Devin Crenshaw and Dezden Duppstadt, both first-year swimmers who each placed in events this past Saturday in Weatherford, the first meet of the year competing against four other teams.

In fact, Nix said all Mineral Wells swimmers competing Saturday placed in at least one event, meaning they finished anywhere from first to sixth overall.

The team travels this Saturday to a meet in Fort Worth hosted by the Ridglea team before hosting a meet Saturday, June 22, at the Aquatics Center at West City Park.

After purchasing new banners and lane markers the past couple of years, the team is actively raising funds to purchase six new swimming blocks – crucial to a swimmer's start and performance. Nix said the current blocks are about 20 years old and are worn and in poor shape.

They cost about $1,500 each, and Nix said the team has raised enough to acquire four blocks. They will need the funds to buy all six before purchasing them. Anyone interested in helping with a donation contact Nix or Tonya Gary.

Additionally, Nix said she is getting team members to give back to the community with a project to beautify and help maintain the area around the city pool, including the sand volleyball and tennis courts.

Rotary Club of Mineral Wells meets every Wednesday at noon at Palo Pinto General Hospital for lunch, networking, updates on club news and events and a program of interest. Meetings are for members, invited guests and prospective members.
