Rutledge Foundation benefits from Rotarian's good luck
Laura Rutledge picked the right week to speak to Rotary Club of Mineral Wells.
Rutledge, second from right, was the guest speaker for Rotary Club's Dec. 7 meeting at Holiday Hills Country Club. She is the executive director and president of Fort Worth-based The Rutledge Foundation, which strives to bring awareness to the more than 1 million young adults with cancer. The foundation is committed to finding curative treatments for sarcomas, one of the most aggressive cancers in teens and young adults.
They are organizing a rodeo event Jan. 28 at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo grounds, beginning that morning with a breakfast at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.

The fortuitous timing for Rutledge's visit to Mineral Wells is it coincided that day with Rotarian Tanya Lukas, pictured far right, possessing the winning raffle ticket for the weekly split the pot drawing. Lukas then pulled the ace of spades from the card deck, making her the winner of half the pot.
Lukas donated her $560 cash prize to the Rutledge Foundation. The other half of the pot goes to the Rotary Foundation for use in global and local community service projects.
